A prime numbers is a number which cannot be divided by any other number except 1 or itself. Being familiar with prime numbers (especially the 2-digit ones) is very useful. It helps to work much faster during math tests, saving us precious time. For example, when changing fractions to their simplest form, many pupils don't know when they have reached the lowest terms. But if you recognize either the numerator or the denominator as a prime number, you know you can't simplify the fraction any more. You can move on to the next question instead of wasting time trying to do what is impossible. Another example would be when finding all the factors of a number. Notes: 1) The number 1 is not considered a prime number. 2) All prime numbers are odd, except for 2. 3) For every group of 10 numbers, you can get 4 prime numbers at most. Sometimes, there's only 1.
