The three degrees of adjectives are positive, comparative and superlative. The comparative degree is used when making a comparison between two groups, subjects or two objects. The superlative degree is used to compare between three or more groups subjects or objects. Example 1: This question is easier than the previous one. The adjective "easy" has 3 forms: easy, easier and easiest. We are using the second form (comparative) because there are only 2 objects. Example 2: This pen is the cheapest. The adjective "cheap" has 3 forms: cheap, cheaper and cheapest. We use the superlative form when comparing 3 or more objects. Positive | Comparative | Superlative | easy | easier | easiest | cheap | cheaper | cheapest | heavy | heavier | heaviest | good | better | best | wet | wetter | wettest | bad | worse | worst | trustworthy | more trustworthy | most trustworthy | intelligent | more intelligent | most intelligent | little | less | least |
To change an adjective into its comparative or superlative form, we usually add "er" or "est", but if the last letter is a "y", we also need to change the "y" into an"i". For some adjectives, we simply add "more" or "most" in front. Note: If you wish to make a comment or ask a question, key in your name and key in what you want to say in the box below.
